Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned forager, this experience offers timeless wisdom, hands-on learning, and a rare chance to walk alongside a true master of the wild.

About Cattail Bob

Cattail Bob has been teaching outdoor education classes since 1975 with an emphasis on ethnobotany and wilderness survival. He has taught for such institutions as The Colorado Division of Wildlife, Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver Botanic Gardens and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Cattail has conducted intensive multi-week survival treks, overnight field trips and simple day outings for over 10,000 students in 50 years. His book "Best-Tasting Wild Plants of Colorado and the Rockies" was published by Westcliffe and has sold over 18,000 copies. His new books, “Survival Plants of Colorado” - Volumes I & II, featuring 468 wild herbs and over 2,000 color photographs, are the “go to” textbooks for ethnobotany classes throughout Colorado. Cattail Bob has been a guest on local television and radio as well as NBC’s The Today Show. He has been an advisor and instructor for the BBC and Discovery Channel's "Naked and Afraid". His outings, hikes and slide shows are fun and educational. Other interests and training include extensive knowledge in first aid, photography, search and rescue, wild fire mitigation and suppression, crisis center/suicide hotline, "green" homebuilding and all-around self-sufficient living. Cattail currently lives in a self-built passive solar cabin on 7 acres near Drake, Colorado.

Hike location is to be determined. Plan for one location being primary high desert native plants and the second location a 30-45 minute drive to a higher elevation location to capture the most from our diverse ecosystem in Montezuma County.
